First Presbyterian Church Scouting Program
The Church first chartered with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) back on June 16, 1916 with William E. Day as the first Scoutmaster. We have had many great adult leaders through the years such as: Henry P. Kipp who served for 30 years as Scoutmaster, Harry F. Moffat who served for 40 years in various positions, and William Lang who served as Scoutmaster for 8 years. Troop 34 is one of the oldest ministries and outreach programs of First Presbyterian Church. It is the oldest Non-denominational Troop in the Red Butte District 21 and in the Great Salt Lake Council. Troop 34 has had many boys from all walks of life from different religions to different ethnic backgrounds; more than 30 Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle. The Scout troop has been self supporting with its fund raisers, donations from past members like the Henry P. Kipp family, current members of the Scout Troop, and also from the members of First Presbyterian Church.
