The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

Isaiah 9:2

The words “great light” refer to Jesus; He actually referred to himself as “The light of the world.”  There is a light within each of us and Christ asks that we let that light shine as we reach out to help our neighbors and those who have so many needs.  Jesus said for us to love our neighbors as ourselves and as we do so, the light within us burns brighter reflecting the love of Christ for all.

George Bernard Shaw wrote the following:

“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.   I want to be thoroughly used up when I die for the harder I work, the more I live.  Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to the future generations.”

Let us keep that light within us burning brightly everyday as we remember that we are the Hands of Christ to do His work here on earth.  After all, it wasn’t the nails that kept Him on the Cross; it was His great love for us!
