He says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." Isaiah 49:6 It is hard to imagine what the Israelites listening to Isaiah would think. The coming Messiah would not only come to restore Judah (which would be no small feat) but would even reunite the split nations of Israel and Judah (an even bigger feat). But wait! There’s more. The Messiah would also be a light to all the rest of the world as well! God’s plan is much bigger than yours and mine could ever be. And yet through our small actions we can be a part of God’s incredible work.
Microfinance is a way people can give loans to the poor. The benefits of giving micro loans are incredible. They allow very poor households to improve their family income, help their larger community, and help individuals (especially women) take steps to become financially independent. Money repaid can then be used to help others in need. Check out Kiva (www.kiva.org), a person-to-person micro lending website. - Go to Kiva and pick a venture that has already been financed.
