For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

John 1:17

Living in grace and truth cannot be achieved without also living with the law; simply living within the law is only a small step towards living in grace and truth.

As a mom, I’ve come to realize that teaching my daughter to honor her spirituality and encouraging her to build a personal relationship with God is as high a priority as the rules I’ve taught her to be safe, to be a good friend, to get along in school.  Abiding by rules set by our families, society and God are only the first steps towards finding the peace that comes from a deeply personal relationship with God.

I watch my eight-year-old daughter work her way through learning those basic rules, and I’m so grateful to see that she’s also learned compassion, gratitude, empathy, and has a sense of purpose that surpasses simply following the rules to get through life.

Living an example of striving for grace and truth is the means to achieving a better world for our children, a world which will be ruled by a greater purpose than simply living by the letter of the law.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth . . .
