Appeared in the Facebook newsfeed recently: Sarah Maulden is thankful for the joys of being mom to Alex. Today someone knocked at the door and she said, "Maybe it's God." Her friend Cole said, "Don't say 'God' - that's a bad word." (his parents have been teaching him about appropriate use of the word God) And Alex said, "No it's not. God is GOOD! He's almighty and powerful." :-)I read the above quote, and the first thing that came to my mind was the image of Jesus Christ knocking on the door, which I have seen in different places. Discovering the relevant bible verse, Revelation 3:20, was the surprising part though, since it led me to reading a part of the bible I would not normally go to. Living in a big city, the possibility of the person knocking on your door being God is simply not something you are taught. We are taught to mistrust strangers, yet in Hebrews 13:2, we are exhorted to show kindness & hospitality. Since ‘God’ is not considered an appropriate topic of conversation in our politically correct society, if censured for speaking about God, many adults may not be able to take an appropriate stance. Children, however, see the world very differently. Not only are they open to the possibility that the person knocking on the door may be God, but can also state as a matter of fact that God is good, almighty and powerful! So this Advent season, perhaps it is time to have a look at the world from a child’s perspective as Jesus Himself asks us to do in Mark 10:13-16. -Vik.
