• James 3:17-18
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

Short-Timers Adult Sunday School

"Fear God" led by Pastor James

Sunday mornings, March 6, 13, 20 and 27, 10:00-10:50 am in Classroom 3. We often hear in church about how God wants a relationship with us; how he is loving and full of grace and mercy. Often in TV and movies, God is portrayed as a really nice Grandpa and it’s easy for us to think of God that way. However, the Bible also repeatedly portrays God as a being we should utterly and totally fear.

Do you fear God? Do you find yourself thinking of God as two different beings: the mean Old Testament distant Holy One or the nice New Testament Friend? When you read about the ―fear‖ of God in the Bible, do you redefine the word for yourself each time as simply being ―reverent?‖ Do you ever wonder if fear is a necessary component for having a strong relationship with God? If you find yourself ever pondering these questions, join Pastor James as he examines scripture and material from Francis Chan and Jerry Bridges on this subject, and then join the discussion on how the fear of God may impact our relationship with Him.
