Come to the upcoming Lenten series--Create in me a Clean Heart--for discussion on selected writings from C.S. Lewis. We will meet Wednesdays through March at 7:30 PM.
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of your possession? (The prophet Micah 7:18). As we enter the season of Lent (March 9-April 23), we acknowledge the amazing grace of God in Christ. Given the depth of human depravity and our own personal sin, it is a wonder that God has not simply obliterated us altogether. But his redemptive love continues to reach out to any and all who acknowledge their need. C.S. Lewis put it this way: "A great deal of our anxiety to make excuses comes from not believing in the forgiveness of sins. Real forgiveness means looking steadily at the sin, the sin that is left over without any excuse, after all allowances have been made, and seeing all its meanness and malice, and nevertheless being wholly reconciled to the person who has done it. That, and only that, is forgiveness, and that we can always have from God if we ask for it." Beginning with Ash Wednesday and for the following five Wednesday nights, we will consider the writings of C.S. Lewis as he relates to the Lenten prayer from Psalm 51, "create in me a clean heart, O God." We will read and discuss the essence of the Christian faith; we will also celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper each Wednesday night as a means of acknowledging our sin, receiving the forgiveness we need, and being nourished in our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. I hope many of you are able to come for this special time of experiencing the depth of God’s love. Wednesday nights, March 9-April 13, 7:30-8:30 PM in the fellowship area. With hope in Christ and love for each one of you, Rev. Dr. Michael Imperiale |
