Godspell is a musical by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak. It opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has played in schools, touring companies and revivals many times, including a 2011 revival now playing on Broadway.
“Day by Day" reached #13 on the Billboard singles chart in the summer of 1972. The musical is based on the Gospel of Matthew and parables of Jesus. These are combined with new musical settings from traditional hymns, with the passion of Christ treated briefly near the end of the performance. It started as a college project performed by students at Carnegie Mellon University and moved to La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in Greenwich Village.
Pastor Mike and several musicians from the community who have performed in Godspell over the years will lead a “Sing-Along” version accompanied by guitar, piano and drums. Please come on Saturday, April 21, to sing along or listen and enjoy the music and message of Godspell (the Gospel) as we continue to celebrate the Easter season. Invite friends and family members along. |
