BAPTISMBaptism is a deeply spiritual ceremony that welcomes an adult or child into the family of Christ and into the church community. Baptism signifies that God has called that person to be His own. Infant baptism also convers the parents' intention to raise their child to love and follow Christ.
In the Presbyterian Church, baptism is typically performed before the congregation during a Sunday worship service. While saying a blessing, the pastor touches the forehead of the recipient with water from the baptismal font. Baptism can be performed for infants, children, or adults. The baptism service, a statement of faith made in the presence of others, does not provide access to heaven, and unbaptized people are not denied salvation. Presbyterians believe salvation comes only through faith in Christ. If you have questions about baptism either for yourself or for your children, please contact one of our pastors or call the church office (801-363-3889). |
