First Presbyterian Church First Presbyterian Church welcomes all who seek Christ to both the 9:00 contemporary service and the 11:00 traditional service on Sundays. We are located on the corner of South Temple and C Street in the Avenues neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Additional information about parking and our location can be found here .
At the first service, contemporary music is provided by the Rising Sound praise band, while at the traditional service the church choir leads the congregation in hymns and presents anthems, with volunteer performers filling in during the summer. The same sermon is delivered at both services by either Pastor Mike Imperiale or Assosciate Pastor James Holeman . Between the two services and after the 11:00 service, light refreshments are available in the fellowship hall. This is a great way to get to know others of the church. Sunday Services Upon arrival, visitors will receive a bulletin that lists the order of events during the service; events marked with a cross icon indicate that the congregation will stand, if able. At various times throughout the service, the congregation sings hymns, listed by number in the bulletin. The congregation may also read responsively from the Bible or printed prayers from the bulletin. There are hymnals and Bibles in each pew, but you may listen silently if you desire. On the first Sunday of each month, communion consisting of grape juice and bread will be distributed for those who wish to participate. During the service, a friendship pad will be passed along each pew. By filling out your name and address, you can get to know others sitting next to you. A collection plate will also be passed; donations will help First Presbyterian work to better the community, but visitors are neither required nor expected to donate.
Children's Ministry The church provides a nursery on the second floor for children up to three years old at both services; if you cannot find it, an usher can give you directions. At the 11:00 traditional service, children from age three to the sixth grade are invited up for a special children's sermon gathered around the pastor at the front of the church. They are then led to a classroom area on the second floor for a children's program, which ends at the same time as the service (around noon). They must be picked up from the classroom area. If you cannot find the classrooms, ask an usher and they will direct you. If your child would be more comfortable with a parent, feel free to go with them to the children's message and to their classroom.
We hope that you will join us as we seek to understand God's word and what it means to us in an ever-changing world. |
