Special Worship Services

Easter Services

Ash Wednesday Service begins our 40-day spiritual journey preparing us to celebrate the meaning of Easter. This year the service will begin at 7:00 pm.

During Holy Week there are several services at First Presbyterian Church.

Palm Sunday: Services 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Maundy Thursday: 7:30 pm.  Communion service including time for reflection.

Good Friday: noon. This is a community-wide service based on the seven last words of Christ.  Seven pastors from different churches will participate.

Interfaith Procession of the Cross:  Friday, 6:30 pm.  Through the streets beginning at the Cathedral of the Madeline.  Worshipers will sing hymns, stopping at local church sites to pray and to listen to scripture.

Easter Sunday: 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Christmas Services

Christmas Eve Service Schedule

Family and Children’s Service: 5:00 p.m.  Children and families celebrate Christmas with carols, costums, and an instant pageant for children.

Contemporary Christmas :  8:00 p.m.  With carols, praise music, and candle lighting.

Traditional Candlelight Service: 11:00 p.m.  With carols, choir, organ, brass and candlelight.

Kirkin o’ the Tartan

On October 24th, this service coincides with our Ceilidh (another name for Church party) based on Scottish heritage.  Centuries ago in Scotland the tartan was outlawed by the British and so clansmen, once a year, would secretly bring a scrap of fabric to be blessed by their minister. Today, chieftains of the many Scottish clans in America are invited to commemorate this tradition by bringing their tartan to be blessed in our sanctuary.  Special music is played incorporating the Highland Bagpipe Band, the voices of the chancel choir and the church organ. The acoustics of the church sanctuary make this a memorable experience for all who attend.

The celebration starts the Saturday before with the Scottish Festival called the Ceilidh

Festival of the Opening

The Sunday before Labor Day Weekend is set aside as a day to celebrate the beginning of the new church season. At both services, 9:00 and 11:00 am, all of the church departments (education, missions, prayer groups etc) prepare displays.  Members are encouraged to become involved in carrying out the church’s mission.
