Though everyone recognizes the inevitability of death, Christian faith affirms that “neither death, nor life...nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). Even still, the love of God does not eliminate the grief that accompanies a loved one’s death and the difficulty involved in making arrangement for a funeral or memorial service. Recognizing this, First Presbyterian Church offers this “Guide For Funerals” to help carry the burden of such planning. Beyond this, we would encourage all who are able to discuss and plan in advance the arrangements that will be necessary at the time of death. With such planning, surviving members of the family aren’t left to make decisions when they are burdened by grief and are instead comforted by knowing what the deceased desired. This guide is intended to assist you in either your moment of loss or in advance preparation. Our ministers or deacons are more than willing to discuss these matters with any who wish to do so.
